Beyond MBBS — BDS, AYUSH and allied options at your NEET rank, honestly
When MBBS is out of reach, the same NEET score opens BDS, BAMS/BHMS, veterinary and nursing routes. A clear-eyed comparison of careers, costs and counselling.
The option map
BDS (dentistry) counsels alongside MBBS in the same MCC/state processes, closing substantially deeper. AYUSH degrees (BAMS Ayurveda, BHMS Homeopathy, BUMS Unani, BSMS Siddha) run through a separate AYUSH counselling on NEET scores, deeper still. Veterinary (BVSc) fills some seats via NEET; nursing and allied sciences vary by state.
Government-college BDS and BAMS are inexpensive; their private-college versions carry fees that demand the same honest arithmetic as deemed MBBS. Never pay MBBS-level money for a degree whose economics don't support it.
Honest career framing
Dentistry rewards clinical skill and eventual practice ownership; employment-only dental careers are salary-modest early on. Ayurveda careers concentrate in practice, wellness and government AYUSH systems. Each is a real profession — but choose it as a profession, not as a consolation MBBS.
The alternative worth equal consideration: a repeat NEET year (if the dropper framework says yes) or a strong non-medical path (BSc → research, pharmacy, physiotherapy, public health). Compare against those, not against the MBBS you didn't get.

Is BDS counselling separate from MBBS?
Same portals and rounds — BDS choices sit in the same MCC/state preference lists. AYUSH is a separate counselling with its own registration.
Can I upgrade from BDS to MBBS next round?
Within the same process and rules, yes — an MBBS allotment in a later round works like any upgrade, with the usual joining/exit mechanics.
Do AYUSH degrees allow prescribing modern medicine?
Scope-of-practice rules are specific and state-dependent; broadly, AYUSH practitioners practice their own systems. Anyone selling BAMS as 'MBBS-equivalent practice rights' is misleading you.
